The idea is that I wouldn’t know what people are into or not into unless I am constantly testing where the limits of the predictability and the surprise are.  Why is this all so important?  Well, here’s why.  Because our audiences will change. They will want new things.  They will be different audiences.  If we are not constantly testing who we are talking to and what it is that they are interested in, then we are going to just continue to serve something that is like frozen in time and our audience will move on from us.

It is inevitable that many of our meetings and conversations in work will have some sort of agenda, physical or figurative.  That’s okay.  But I don’t believe you can ever meaningfully build deep relationships if you exclusively talk with agenda in place.  There needs to be more fluidity and serendipity when you build relationships.
